Yesterday I competed in the Tempe International Triathlon. I am trying to qualify for the USAT Nationals in Milwaukee and this was my second of three races where I can qualify.
This race attracts a lot of very competitive older
athletes so I knew it would be a longshot and it was. I needed to finish first
in my age group to qualify and this year there were three others that were
faster than me.
I had a very good swim segment and I averaged almost
20 mph on the bike, but on the run I just didn’t have the energy or guts or
whatever it took to push through the heat and I was well off my pace.
But I still managed to improve on my previous best
time here by nearly two minutes so I’m not discouraged. I think I have a good
chance at qualifying at my next race in Elkhart Lake, Wisconsin. In that race I just have to finish in the top
5.
